Necklace Size Guide
Necklace length changes everything: where a piece sits, how it layers, and how it frames your neckline. Here's how to choose.
Length Guide
| Length | Name | Where It Sits |
|---|---|---|
| 35–40 cm (14–16") | Choker | Snug around the base of the neck |
| 40–45 cm (16–18") | Princess | At or just below the collarbone, our most popular length |
| 45–50 cm (18–20") | Matinee | Just below the collarbone, at the top of the chest |
| 50–60 cm (20–24") | Opera | Mid-chest, ideal for layering |
| 60 cm+ (24"+) | Rope | Below the chest, dramatic and versatile |
How to Measure
- Wrap a soft measuring tape or a piece of string around your neck, positioned where you'd like the necklace to sit.
- Mark where the ends meet and measure against a ruler.
- Compare your measurement to the chart above.
Alternatively, measure a necklace you already own and love: lay it flat, fully extended, and measure from clasp to end.
Layering Necklaces
For a layered look, choose lengths that differ by at least 5 cm (2 inches), so each piece sits distinctly rather than tangling.
A classic layering combination:
- A shorter piece at 40–45 cm (16–18")
- A mid-length piece at 45–50 cm (18–20")
- A longer statement piece at 50–55 cm (20–22")
Tips
- Pendant weight matters: a heavier pendant may sit slightly lower than the chain length suggests.
- Necklines: shorter lengths suit higher necklines; longer pieces work beautifully with open or V-necklines.
- Extender chains: many Lunael necklaces include an extender, giving you flexibility across a range of lengths.
